screening in 2022

A colonoscopy is a test used to detect the changes in the large intestine created by irritating cancer tissues. In this method, a flexible tube attached with a tiny video camera to check for any abnormal tissue can be removed and preventive procedures are maintained. This is known as colonoscopy screening.

Test should be taken

  • Guaiac based fecal occult blood test (GFOBT)
  • Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT)
  • FIT DNA test

Guaiac Based Fecal Occult Blood Test

This method uses the guaiac chemical to detect blood in the stool. A small amount of stool is taken for a test once a year with your service provider.

Fecal Immunochemical Test

This method uses antibodies to detect the blood in stool. This method is also done once a year.

FIT DNA test

This method is to check the presence of any altered DNA in the stool. This method was done three years once.

How to find colorectal cancer?

This cancer can be identified once the disease is advanced as it has no symptoms. Other than this, a colonoscopy screening test can be done to identify an abnormality. If it detects any abnormality, additional tests are needed to confirm it. Colonoscopy is the initial test done, then stool blood testing is done as the next stage.

Then the next test of sigmoidoscopy is done to find any abnormality if any abnormality is found during this test. A biopsy is performed during the test. Then is there any abnormality found during a standard colonoscopy is determined as that cancer presented.

If the patient is confirmed with colorectal cancer, then the patient should attend treatment properly to cure it. Curasia is a colonoscopy Centre located in Singapore dedicated to patient care. Colorectal cancer will kill you if it is not treated properly. Colonoscopy can reduce 60% of death rate caused by this disease.
